Ground Turkey Tacos

These tasty ground turkey tacos get bold flavor from a homemade seasoning mix.

Ingredients  

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons salsa any variety
  • 8 small low carb tortillas
  • toppings as desired *see notes 

Taco Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • ½ tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions 

  • In a medium skillet, heat the oil over medium high heat.
  • Add ground turkey and brown until no pink remains, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any fat.
  • Meanwhile, mix the taco seasoning ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Add the seasoning mixture, water, and salsa to the cooked turkey. Bring to a simmer and let simmer 4 to 5 minutes or until thickened.
  • Warm the tortillas according to package directions. Fill the tortillas with meat and desired toppings.

Notes

  • Taco seasoning mix can be replaced with 1 packet or 2 tablespoons of prepared taco seasoning.
  • *Toppings to try: guacamole, salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, diced peppers, jalapenos, or sliced black olives.
