Turkey – Stock up on ground turkey when it’s on sale! Ground beef, chicken, and pork can also be used.

Seasonings – DIY low-carb taco seasoning to use in everything from rubs to dressings, or you can adjust the ingredients any way you like!

Low Carb Tortillas – To make a crisp taco shell from a tortilla, spray a small skillet with pan release and brown one side of a tortilla, fold it in half, and flip it over. Or make lettuce wraps for a fresh and crisp option!

How to Make Ground Turkey Tacos

Healthy and perfectly seasoned turkey tacos are a keto-lover’s dream dish!

  1. Cook ground turkey in oil and drain any fat.
  2. Make seasoning mix while the turkey is cooking (as per the recipe below).
  3. Add seasoning mix, salsa, and water, and simmer until thickened.
  4. Fill warmed tortillas with taco meat and desired toppings.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with shredded lettuce, onions, olives, sliced jalapenos, green chiles, shredded cheddar, or a Mexican cheese blend. Top with avocado salsa, regular low carb salsa, sour cream, guacamole or avocado dip and a splash of tabasco!

Everyone loves a taco bar, so place the taco meat in a slow cooker to keep warm, and surround with bowls of all your favorite additions and toppings, so people can help themselves.

Leftover Ground Turkey Tacos?

  • Keep extra ground turkey taco meat in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Make more tacos or go for taco lettuce wraps.
  • Use leftovers in place of ground beef in a hearty soup, or a zesty chili.
  • Freeze turkey taco meat in zippered bags for up to 4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight or on the stovetop with a little water.

Ground Turkey Tacos

These tasty ground turkey tacos are low carb and quick to make!

Ingredients  

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons salsa any variety
  • 8 small low carb tortillas
  • toppings as desired *see notes 

Taco Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • ½ tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions 

  • In a medium skillet, heat the oil over medium high heat.
  • Add ground turkey and brown until no pink remains, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any fat.
  • Meanwhile, mix the taco seasoning ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Add the seasoning mixture, water, and salsa to the cooked turkey. Bring to a simmer and let simmer 4 to 5 minutes or until thickened.
  • Warm the tortillas according to package directions. Fill the tortillas with meat and desired toppings.

Notes

Taco seasoning mix can be replaced with 1 packet or 2 tablespoons of prepared taco seasoning.
*Toppings to try: guacamole, salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, diced peppers, jalapenos, or sliced black olives.
