Grilled avocado is one of the easiest ways to add smoky, creamy flavor to your summer meals. This quick recipe needs only a handful of simple ingredients for the perfect low carb side or topping.

Holly’s Recipe Highlights
- Flavor: Grilled avocados have a rich, buttery flavor with a light smokiness and subtle char to enhance their natural creaminess.
- Skill Level: Using just three flavorful ingredients, a quick high heat cook, and minimal clean up, this beginner friendly recipe is super easy!
- Recommended Tools: Use an outdoor grill, or a cast iron grill pan, to get those charred marks.
- Serving Suggestions: I serve these as a side with grilled chicken or steak, or fill them with salsa, shrimp, or chicken salad.

Ingredients
- Avocado: Choose ripe ones that give slightly when pressed but still feel firm. Hass avocados are a great choice, stock up when they are on sale and store them submerged in water in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Oil: A little oil helps prevent sticking and gives the cut side a nice golden color. I often swap in avocado oil since it holds up well to high heat.
- Seasoning: Simple seasoning is the best way to let that smoky avocado flavor shine. Flaky salt is a nice finishing touch after grilling.
- Variations:
- Try sesame oil, chili oil, or even melted bacon grease.
- Add lime juice for freshness that balances the rich avocado.
- Chili flakes or Tajín would add a spicy, punchy finish.
- For more savory depth, add a bit of garlic powder. Garlic herb seasoning or a zesty southwest seasoning would be interesting options.

How To Grill Avocado
- Cut the avocados vertically and remove the pit. Brush the cut sides with oil and season.
- Grill each cut half until lightly charred (full recipe below). Serve immediately.
Grill Smarter, Not Harder
- Prevent dry avocados by brushing the cut side with oil right before grilling.
- Clean and oil the grill grates before grilling so avocado releases easily.
- Grill cut side down only for the best color and smoky flavor.
- Grill avocados a maximum two to three minutes on a hot grill for best results.
- Add toppings after grilling for the best char.
Save Every Bite
- Refrigerate leftover grilled avocado in an airtight container for up to 1 or 2 days. Press plastic wrap against the cut surface and brush with lime juice to slow browning.
- Leftovers make a quick salsa or lunch bowl topping the next day.
- Do not freeze or reheat.
