Slow Cooker Green Beans is The Best Holiday Dish Because…
- Crock pot green beans are a classic holiday fave with a little extra addition of bacon, onions, and garlic flavor.
- Hands off cooking is the best way to save precious holiday cooking time and stovetop space, and can even be made ahead. Just warm and serve.
- Mildly sweet green beans and salty bacon are the perfect foundation for customizing with your own seasonings or extra veggies.
Ingredients
Green Beans: Look for fresh, unblemished green beans that are of similar size so they cook evenly. Frozen green beans don’t need to be thawed, but canned green beans should be drained and rinsed before use. (If using canned, reduce the cooking time.)
Bacon: The fat from the bacon infuses the onion with loads of flavor, so feel free to any flavor variety you prefer. Honey, hickory, or apple wood smoked are great choices.
Variations
Feel free to toss in leftover low-carb veggies from the fridge or add mushrooms or bell peppers.
Instead of bacon, use chopped smoked sausage or a ham hock for a Southern-style version if you like.
Make it a main dish and use up leftover cooked chicken, pork, or beef. Simply add meat to the slow cooker for 10 minutes at the end of the cooking time.
