Holly’s Recipe Highlights
- Flavor: Sauerkraut and kielbasa develops a sweet and smoky flavor as the ingredients simmer together in a seasoned broth.
- Skill Level: Three easy steps and just one skillet get this dish to the table fast.
- Time Saving Tip: Purchase pre-sliced kielbasa, or slice ahead of time, to cut down meal time prep to almost nothing.
- Yield: This recipe serves 4, but it’s really easy to double or triple. Then you can cook it once and enjoy it for days while the flavors continue to improve.

Simple & Savory Ingredients
- Kielbasa: Kielbasa adds a rich, garlicky flavor to this dish, but any keto-friendly summer sausage works.
- Sauerkraut: Be sure sauerkraut is drained well. Save the brine to quick-pickle other veggies, or if it’s a live ferment, use it as a probiotic shot.
- Seasoned Broth: Chicken broth, Dijon, caraway, and garlic powder infuse the dish with flavor.
Creative Kielbasa Creations
- No sauerkraut? Use a bag or two of pre-shredded coleslaw mix.
- Budget-friendly root vegetables go best with this kind of dinner, but most aren’t low-carb, so stick with daikon or turnips if you’re going this route. Try sliced mushrooms, zucchini, or strips of colorful bell peppers for extra sweetness and crunch
- Dijon can be swapped out with a spicy stone-ground mustard.

Sizzling Sausage Secrets
- For the best flavor, fry the sliced sausages until the edges are crispy and brown.
- Before starting in Step 1, add the sauerkraut over a colander to ensure it’s thoroughly drained.
- Simmer sauerkraut and kielbasa covered, then uncover to allow the liquid to evaporate and intensify the flavor. Don’t skip this step.

Serve it Up, Save it Right!
- Serve this satisfying dish with a tangy green bean salad or a colorful cherry tomato salad.
- Make ahead of time, then serve from the Crockpot. It can reheat on medium while you make other dishes. Turn it down to warm when it’s time to serve.
- Store leftover kielbasa and sauerkraut in a covered container for up to 4 days and reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop with a little chicken broth stirred in.
- Freeze in zippered bags for up to 4 weeks. Thaw in the refrigerator.
