Holly’s Crispy Highlights
- Flavor: Mild and cheesy cottage cheese chips with crispy brown edges have endless flavor possibilities.
- Skill Level: So easy, just scoop and bake! Even the kids will want to help make cottage cheese chips.
- Recommended Tools: A cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer is best for pressing excess moisture from the cottage cheese in Step 1.
- Serving Suggestions: Tex-Mex seasoning plus shredded pepper jack cheese is delish with cottage cheese chips. Serve with homemade avocado dip.
Chip Worthy Ingredients
- Cottage Cheese: Keto-friendly, full-fat, small or large-curd cottage cheese makes for the crispiest chips, but any milk-fat variety works.
- Seasonings: The sky is the limit for cottage cheese chip seasonings. Keep it simple with a little salt and cracked black pepper, or go for an everything bagel flavor, or a simple garlic herb blend. Chia seeds, poppyseeds, lemon zest, or red pepper flakes are all easy, one-ingredient options to mix in.
Cheesy Flavor Twists
Dress ‘em even more by placing a thin slice of black olive, jalapenos, green chiles, or finely chopped bell peppers on top for more color and crunch. Add some Parmesan cheese and Italian seasonings to create a savory cracker, or press in a little parsley, cilantro, or thyme sprigs to add an elegant look to any serving platter.
How to Make Cottage Cheese Chips
- Remove excess moisture from cottage cheese (full recipe below).
- Drop portions onto a prepared baking sheet and flatten slightly.
- Sprinkle with desired seasonings (optional).
- Bake until the edges are crispy and golden.
- Cool completely before serving.
Crunchy Tips
- The key to perfectly crispy cottage cheese chips is to remove excess moisture in Step 2. Flatten them to a uniform thickness and make sure there’s enough space between them for spreading as they bake. Use a small cookie scoop to measure portions properly.
- Check your chips about 5 minutes before the timer goes off to see if they need more time, if the pan should be rotated for even baking, or if they’re ready to pull…and always let them cool completely before enjoying.
Store and Re-Crisp
Cottage cheese chips are best when they’re cooled and at maximum crispness. Since they are dairy-based, they will not stay crispy once refrigerated or frozen. Store them at room temperature in a covered container and re-crisp them in an air fryer or under the broiler.
